Columbus: After a wild political year, folks in Ohio were looking for ways to share their opinions. Some decided to get creative with their license plates.
The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles had quite the list of rejected plates in 2024. Among them were F47 LGB, FK KAMLA, and EADMUSK. They turned down a total of 971 plates, all because they didn’t meet the agency’s guidelines.
These rules are pretty strict. They won’t allow plates that are rude, sexual, or could stir up trouble. A committee of seven people reviews these requests daily, sending their picks to the registrar for the final say.
But it’s not just about the plates. There’s some legal drama too. An Ohio man is suing the BMV for rejecting his plate, F46 LGB, which he says is a nod to President Biden. The case is still in the works.
Last year’s rejected plates showed a lot of attitude. Some examples include FKMYEX and AH SOLE. One person even tried to get FU NJ, showing their feelings about New Jersey. And there were some cheeky ones like EF CNCER that popped up again this year.
Ohioans also had their fun with plates like NUKE OH and IH8OH1O. There were plenty of plates that needed a second look, like DOG TURD and HEROIN, which were pretty straightforward.
If you want to see the full list of rejected plates, it’s available for viewing. It’s a wild ride through Ohio’s creative expressions!
