Ottawa: So, Justin Trudeau finally made the big announcement. After all the chatter and pressure, he’s stepping down as the leader of the Liberal Party. He said he’ll hang around until they pick someone new, but he won’t be leading them into the next election, which is due before October 2025.

His popularity has really taken a hit since he first got elected back in 2015. Just last week, a poll showed only 16% of folks were backing the Liberals, and a whopping 46% thought it was time for him to go.

On Monday, he shared from Rideau Cottage that he asked the Governor General to pause Parliament until March 24. He plans to stay on as the interim leader and prime minister until the party finds a new head honcho.

And guess what? Canadian politicians had a lot to say about it. Pierre Poilievre, Chrystia Freeland, and even Donald Trump jumped in with their thoughts. It’s a real mix of reactions, that’s for sure.
