Somerset: A couple of activists are in hot water after they sprayed chalk paint on Charles Darwin’s grave at Westminster Abbey. It’s a bold move, right?
The message “1.5 is dead” was splashed in orange on the grave, and it’s all about the urgent need to tackle climate change. They’re really trying to make a point about global warming.
So, here’s the scoop: Alyson Lee, 66, and Di Bligh, 77, were both there on Monday. They’ve been charged with criminal damage and will be heading to court next month.
A church spokesperson mentioned that they don’t expect any lasting damage from the protest, which is a relief.
Lee shared with the press that they’re pushing the government to step up its game on climate action. She feels they’re just not doing enough.
Bligh chimed in, saying they felt hopeless about the world’s future. They chose Darwin’s grave because they believe he’d be upset about the current environmental crisis.
