Edinburgh: So, John Swinney recently shared a video where he talked about his morning run. He mentioned that he’s completed a marathon for the Doddie Aid challenge over the past couple of weeks.
This annual campaign is all about helping folks kick off the New Year right. It’s a chance to shake off those January blues while raising money for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
The foundation is super important as it funds research for motor neuron disease (MND) and aims to find a cure. Swinney, sporting a blue beanie with the Doddie Aid logo, encouraged everyone to join in. He called it a “great way” to raise awareness.
He said, “I’ve just been out for a run this morning and as a result of that I’ve now completed a marathon for Doddie Aid over the course of the last couple of weeks.” He’s planning to keep it going for the rest of January.
He added, “It’s a great way to raise awareness about MND research and to keep fit and healthy, so all good wishes to everyone else who has taken part in the Doddie Aid challenge.”
Since January started, he’s logged a marathon and shared an update on Twitter. Doddie Aid was founded back in 2021 by former Scotland captain Rob Wainwright to support the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, which was started by his friend Doddie Weir.
This campaign has been a huge success, raising over £5 million for MND research, with more than 100,000 people participating and logging over 9.5 million miles.
The challenge kicked off on January 1 and runs for five weeks. Everyone who joins gets a free snood. The charity encourages any form of exercise, so if you’re interested, you can sign up and join the fun!
