John Henry Sayers and Son Face Court After Byker Restaurant Car Fire

John Henry Sayers and his son are in court after a car fire at a Byker restaurant injured a man and led to serious charges.

Byker: A car crashed into a restaurant and caught fire. John Henry Sayers, 61, and his son, John Henry Junior, 28, are in court over this incident.

They face serious charges, including grievous bodily harm with intent. Sayers Snr had a machete, while Sayers Jnr had a metal bar.

Police arrived at Fossway on Sunday evening. A man in his 30s was hurt and taken to the hospital. He has fractured wrists and other injuries.

Both men appeared in Newcastle Magistrates’ Court. Their case will go to the crown court since the charges are serious.

District Judge Kate Meek explained the situation. She said they will appear again on March 4. For now, they remain in custody.

A police spokesperson confirmed the disturbance involved a vehicle and a group of men. A teenager was also arrested but has been released on bail.
