Belfast: The family of John George, who was found dead in Spain, recently met with the PSNI. They’re waiting for his body to return to Northern Ireland.
John was on holiday in Alicante when he went missing last month. The 37-year-old dad last spoke to his family on December 14. He was reported missing four days later after he didn’t catch his flight home.
His family and friends, about 50 of them, were involved in the search. Sadly, his body was discovered last week.
In a statement, the family’s lawyer, Kevin Winters, shared that they discussed the investigation with the PSNI. They’re eager to know when John’s body will be back in Belfast.
Despite finding John’s remains nearly a week ago, there’s still no word on when the autopsy will be done. The police assured the family they’d help with a second postmortem.
The family is relieved to hear that communication with Spanish authorities will improve. They’ve felt frustrated by the lack of updates so far.
They also learned that the PSNI will assist in investigating any suspects linked to the case in Belfast. However, they stressed that this is a cross-border investigation, so they’ll need direction from Spanish police.
The family plans to meet again in two weeks for more updates. Meanwhile, a man arrested in connection with John’s death has been released on bail in Spain.
When the George family returned to Belfast International Airport, they were met with support from the community. Billy George expressed their determination to bring his son home, and the crowd cheered for “justice for John.”
