Jimmy Carter National Day of Mourning: NYC Open and Closed Status
A national day of mourning for Jimmy Carter will affect operations in NYC on Thursday, with some closures and many places remaining open.

Carter was the longest-living president in U.S. history, and his state funeral will take place on the same day, starting at 10 a.m. The last national day of mourning was for George H.W. Bush back in December 2018.
In NYC, most businesses will stay open, but some will close. City Hall and all government offices will be open, and Mayor Adams will give the State of the City address.
Alternate side parking rules will still be in effect, and congestion pricing will continue as usual. Public schools in the city, along with CUNY and SUNY campuses, will also operate normally.
However, most federal offices, including courts in Manhattan and Brooklyn, will be closed. The U.S. Postal Service will halt regular package delivery and close all offices for the day.
On Wall Street, the New York Stock Exchange will be closed, just like it was for George H.W. Bush. The Nasdaq will also shut down its U.S. market, but bond traders will work until 2 p.m. as per industry recommendations.
