Miami: The buzz around Jimmy Butler possibly leaving the Heat is getting stronger. Reports say Miami is open to trade offers for the six-time All-Star.
ESPN’s Shams Charania mentioned that the Heat might deal the 35-year-old. His agent, Bernie Lee, has hinted that Butler would consider teams like the Mavericks, Rockets, Warriors, and Suns.
Interestingly, Butler has shown interest in the Nets, a team that has liked him in the past. According to The New York Post, he still has his eyes on Brooklyn.
But with the Nets in a rebuilding phase, their GM Sean Marks might not want to give up assets for Butler. Plus, Butler’s injury history raises questions about his fit in Brooklyn’s future plans.
He also has a hefty $52.2 million player option for next year, which he could decline to become a free agent. A source close to him mentioned that the Nets are his top choice if he opts out and signs as a free agent.
Lee, however, pushed back against the trade rumors on social media, and Miami’s owner Micky Arison shared his posts, suggesting there might not be much interest in trading Butler after all.
Butler, who’s averaging 19 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists this season, said he’s okay with being part of the trade chatter. “I actually like it,” he said. “It’s good to be talked about.”
