New York: The Jets just finished chatting with Ron Rivera about their head coaching gig. It’s an interesting move, considering Rivera’s experience.

He was the head coach for the Commanders from 2020 to 2023, where he had a record of 26 wins and 40 losses. Not the best, but he did make the playoffs in his first year.

Before that, he was with the Panthers for a good stretch, from 2011 to 2019. He even took them to the Super Bowl in 2015 after a stellar 15-1 season. Pretty impressive, right?

Rivera started his coaching journey with the Bears, the team that picked him in the second round back in ’84. He also coached linebackers for the Eagles under Andy Reid, which is a solid pedigree.

Jets chairman Woody Johnson is on the hunt for a new head coach and GM. He’s brought in The 33rd Team to help find and vet candidates, which is a smart move.

For now, Jeff Ulbrich and Phil Savage are holding down the fort as interim head coach and GM. It’ll be interesting to see who they end up hiring!
