Cotswolds: Jeremy Clarkson, known for Top Gear, is now a farming advocate. He found a loophole in Rachel Reeves’ new tax plan for farmers.

Reeves announced a tax change starting April 2026. Inheritance tax relief for farms will be capped at £1 million. Anything above that will face a 20% tax.

Farmers are upset. They’ve protested in Whitehall against these changes. Clarkson, who stars in Clarkson’s Farm, believes farming is already tough enough.

He shared a clever loophole in his column. It involves a complicated inheritance plan between a farmer and his son.

Clarkson suggested the son divorce his wife. Then, she could marry the father. After the father’s death, the farm would go to her, avoiding the tax.

Later, the son could remarry his ex-wife. This way, the farm transfers without the hefty tax burden.

Clarkson humorously said, “Bob’s your uncle!” But there’s a catch. A farmer friend worried he couldn’t use this plan since he has daughters.

Clarkson told him to relax and suggested marrying his son-in-law. “We live in modern times. That’s allowed now,” he wrote.

He ended with a cheeky note about how it would be fun to see Reeves’ reaction.
