Theale: A jazz band is anxious that roadworks will keep fans from their show. The roadworks are happening on Theale High Street.
SGN started a 10-week project to replace a gas main last Wednesday. This has caused some confusion for drivers.
Graeme Hewitt, the band leader, has been performing for over 50 years. His ‘High Society Jazz Band’ is set to play at Theale Village Hall tomorrow.
Graeme said, “It would be tragic if our fans cannot find us.” He’s been a familiar face at the hall for over 15 years.
There’s a one-way lane closure for traffic heading west on High Street. Some drivers are ignoring the restrictions, as seen on social media.
Drivers must take a diversion through Church Street, The Green, and Hoad Way. However, those traveling east won’t be affected.
Graeme mentioned, “My musicians are coming from London, Southampton, and Birmingham.” He believes this is a unique chance to hear traditional jazz.
His band used to play every Tuesday but now performs monthly due to age. Graeme plays the clarinet, joined by Mark Aston on saxophone and trombone.
Other musicians include Mike Bennett on bass and Ian Gilchrist on keyboard. Guest performers are Mike Henry on trumpet, Jools Aldridge on drums, and Paul Sealey on banjo.
The show runs from noon to 2 PM. Tickets are £10 at the door and include a free raffle.
