Chicago: The Bears are facing a crucial offseason. They need to make some big moves to get back on track. The first step? Finding a new head coach after letting go of Matt Eberflus.
There’s been a lot of chatter about what type of coach they should bring in. Should it be someone focused on offense to help out quarterback Caleb Williams? Or maybe a seasoned leader to reshape the locker room vibe?
Cornerback Jaylon Johnson is all about getting an offensive-minded coach. He knows how vital it is for Williams to have a solid foundation. Johnson pointed out how Justin Fields struggled without that stability.
“Caleb needs some consistency,” Johnson shared with 670 the Score. “I’ve seen how quarterbacks here have had a rough time. When Justin was drafted, he faced a lot of changes with coaches and coordinators. That’s tough for any player.”
He believes that if Fields had a more stable environment, things could have turned out differently. “It doesn’t matter if you’re the first pick or the last. Without stability, it’s hard to succeed. Every team needs a strong quarterback to win, and that starts with having the right coach.”
Johnson thinks it’s important for Williams to have a say in who the Bears hire. He believes that getting input from the quarterback can help find the best fit for the team.
“Caleb should definitely have some input on who he likes,” Johnson said. “At the end of the day, the decision-makers will make the final call.”
As the Bears look for their next head coach, one name that keeps popping up is Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions. He’s been linked to the job and is expected to interview soon. Johnson has been impressed with Williams during their matchups this season.
