Shocking Details Emerge: Officer Involved in Fatal Shooting During Jamestown Incident
The Jamestown Police Department has identified the officer involved in a deadly shooting during a chaotic incident outside a local bar earlier this month
Jamestown, North Dakota, Sgt. Cory Beckman, Devin Quinn Fontenot, Police Shooting
The officer, Sgt. Cory Beckman, has been with the department for five years. He was the first to arrive and ended up in a gunfight with the suspect, Devin Quinn Fontenot, who was 27. Beckman is also part of the K-9 team and the peer support group in the department.
Right now, Beckman is on paid leave while the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation looks into what happened. Apparently, Fontenot didn’t listen when told to drop his weapon, putting everyone in danger. That’s when Beckman shot him.
Fontenot later died from his injuries. The whole thing started when a 911 call came in about a guy with a gun and a knife in the parking lot behind the bar. The caller said he had been kicked out after a fight inside.
As officers rushed to the scene, they got word that Fontenot was firing shots at a building. When Beckman got there, Fontenot was still shooting. After the shooting, officers tried to help him, and he was taken to the hospital, but sadly, he didn’t make it.
The police department won’t share more details until the investigation is wrapped up, so we’ll have to wait and see what comes next.
