Midlands: A gang used children to sell heroin and cocaine. They were caught and sentenced to a total of 35 years in prison. Gulam Izdani was the last member jailed for his role in the ‘AB’ and ‘Jay’ drug lines.

Izdani was sentenced last week after being found guilty of conspiracy to supply drugs. Other gang members were jailed last year for their involvement.

The ringleader, Brian Asante, coordinated the drug trade from Wolverhampton and Stafford. He used children to help move and sell drugs. Asante received over 13 years in prison.

Eight co-conspirators lived across the West Midlands, including Staffordshire, Northamptonshire, and Wiltshire. They operated the drug lines from February to September 2021.

Detectives tracked the gang’s movements using phone data and automated number plate recognition. They discovered that Snapchat was used to communicate with a child involved in the drug trade.

Gang jailed

Asante, 23, admitted to conspiracy to supply heroin and cocaine. He was also guilty of child exploitation. James Carroll, 46, was convicted of recruiting a child for exploitation and received a two-year sentence.

Maurice Reid, 55, and Simon McTaggart, 38, were both sentenced to six years and 11 months for conspiracy to supply Class-A drugs. Other members received various sentences for their roles.

Izdani, 22, was sentenced to five years and three months for conspiracy to supply drugs. Police are committed to dismantling these criminal networks and protecting vulnerable children.
