Killylea: So, there’s this guy, Ivan Petrov, who’s in a bit of hot water after a terrible accident. It happened on December 27, and sadly, it took the lives of Peter Devlin, 63, and his son Loughlin, 28.
The crash also left three other family members hurt, including a tiny five-month-old baby who’s now dealing with some serious injuries. It’s just heartbreaking.
Petrov, who’s 32, claims he blacked out because of his diabetes right before the crash. He was driving a car that was brought in from Bulgaria but never registered in the UK.
He’s facing some heavy charges, including causing death by dangerous driving. The court decided to keep him in custody because they think he might try to skip town.
The accident happened when Petrov’s car crossed over and hit the Devlins’ Mercedes. Both Peter and Loughlin were pronounced dead at the scene, which is just so tragic.
Peter’s wife, Ursula, is still in the hospital with serious injuries. She’s got a ruptured spleen and a broken pelvis, among other things. It’s just awful.
Petrov says he was just trying to get to a pharmacy and Post Office. He claims he felt his blood sugar drop and stopped to eat some chocolate before continuing to drive.
He doesn’t remember the crash at all, which is really unsettling. His lawyer is trying to argue that he might have had a medical episode, but the court isn’t buying it right now.
The judge pointed out how tragic this whole situation is, with lives lost and families shattered. It’s a tough case, and everyone’s just hoping for some kind of justice.
