Llandudno: So, picture this. Folks were out walking along the North Wales coast when they spotted something huge floating in the water. At first, it looked like a little island just chilling in Liverpool Bay.

One of the walkers, Lisa Kearns, was taking a nice stroll near the Deganwy golf course when she saw this strange sight off the Great Orme. It was so odd that for a moment, she thought it might actually be an island, even though it seemed more likely to be a ship.

Curious, she jumped on social media to share her thoughts, saying, “It looks like an island but we think it’s a ship.” Everyone had a good laugh, with some joking about needing glasses to see better.

Eventually, they figured out that the mysterious object was the MSC Bianca, a big container ship. Apparently, it was waiting to dock in Liverpool because Holyhead Port was closed due to storm damage.

A local guy chimed in, saying the ship was just hanging out until a pilot could take it into the docks. The MSC Bianca is a massive vessel, measuring 328 meters long and built in China in 2019. It sails under the Liberian flag and is registered in Monrovia.

Lisa’s little adventure happened on January 3. The ship made its way to Liverpool the next day, unloaded its cargo, and set off again early on January 7.

This giant ship, weighing in at 112,695 tonnes, is headed to Wilhelmshaven in Germany next. Even with some teasing online, Lisa was still curious and a bit disappointed that it wasn’t an island after all. She joked that she really wanted to name her new-found island!
