Sheffield: A man named Davy Foy has found himself in hot water after his XL Bully, Choppa, attacked a woman. This incident happened back in July 2024, and it’s been quite the story since.
Foy, 47, was taken to court on January 15, where he got hit with a two-year ban on owning dogs. The judge also ordered that his dog be put down. It’s a serious situation.
The attack occurred just after midnight on July 4. Police got calls about a woman being bitten on Fife Street. When officers arrived, they found her with some pretty serious injuries.
Later, they discovered Foy hiding the dog in his backyard. The police took Choppa away, and he’s been in their kennels ever since. It’s been a rough ride for everyone involved.
During the court hearing, which Foy didn’t even attend, the judge heard that the police were worried about the dog going back to him. They made it clear that Foy wasn’t a responsible owner.
Chief Inspector Emma Cheney spoke out, saying Foy didn’t register his dog after the laws changed. She pointed out that he clearly didn’t care about his pet’s well-being or the safety of others.
She emphasized that while any dog can be dangerous, some breeds, like the XL Bully, can be more of a risk. It’s crucial that these dogs are with owners who know what they’re doing.
Sadly, the woman who got attacked needed hospital treatment because of Foy’s negligence. The police are committed to keeping the community safe, but they need responsible owners to step up.
Foy’s actions have cost a lot, too. The expenses for keeping Choppa in kennels have racked up to nearly £6,000. It’s a hefty price for a lack of responsibility.
CI Cheney also mentioned that dangerous dogs are putting a strain on police resources. They don’t have the extra officers or funds to deal with these situations, so it’s on owners to prevent incidents.
