Ipswich: Last Wednesday, St Joseph’s College teams shined at the Youth Speaks competition. They took the top spots in both the intermediate and senior categories.

Now, they’re set to compete in the finals this month at the Norwich debating chamber.

In the intermediate round, Megan, Clara, and Holly debated if artificial intelligence helps or hinders society.

Meanwhile, Ben, Alex, and Ademide tackled whether science and logic make religion irrelevant in the senior competition.

Dr. Briege Rice, a teacher at St Joseph’s, expressed pride in the students’ achievements. She highlighted the importance of oracy and public speaking skills.

She noted that these skills boost confidence and critical thinking, essential in any field.

Dr. Rice also thanked the Rotary Club for supporting youth communication skills through the Youth Speaks initiative.
