Holyhead: So, there was this big storm, Storm Darragh, that really messed things up at the port. It caused some serious damage to the ferry terminals, especially Terminal 3, which is used by Irish Ferries. Because of that, ferry services to Dublin were completely canceled until January 16.
During the storm, there were two incidents that led to part of the berth structure collapsing. It was a bit chaotic, and they had to close Terminal 5 too, which is used by Stena Line. A video even showed the platform collapsing while the Irish Ferries vessel Ulysses was leaving. Yikes!
The Marine Accident Investigation Branch, which looks into maritime accidents in the UK, started digging into what happened. They wanted to figure out if there were any safety issues that led to the incident. They’ve just released a statement saying that their initial findings don’t show any major safety concerns that would need more investigation right now.
Good news for travelers, though! Ferry services from Holyhead are set to restart on January 16, with eight daily departures from Terminal 5. Stena Line has already laid out their schedule, planning four daily sailings starting early in the morning. They’re also reaching out to customers who were affected by the cancellations.
Irish Ferries is directing passengers to their website for the latest sailing times. So, if you’re planning a trip, make sure to check that out!
