Belfast: So, there was this plane that crash-landed at a UK airport just before Christmas. Investigators are now looking into what happened.
The ATR 72, which was flying for Aer Lingus and operated by Emerald Airlines, had a rough time landing around 4 PM on December 22. The weather was pretty bad, and it seems the nose wheel gave out.
Luckily, there were only four crew members on board, and thankfully, no one got hurt. The plane stayed on the runway while emergency teams took care of things.
This whole situation caused a mess with flights. All flights in and out of Belfast City Airport were either canceled or diverted for the rest of the day, including those heading to Manchester.
According to the Manchester Airport departures page, two flights to Belfast were canceled that day. Flights from Belfast to Manchester were also affected, with several cancellations.
The runway reopened the next day, but the aircraft is still stuck at the airport. No word yet on when it’ll be back in the air.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said they haven’t moved the plane because they need to do more checks as part of their investigation. These things can take a while, sometimes up to a year.
Emerald Airlines mentioned that one of their flights from Edinburgh to Belfast had a hard landing due to the bad weather. They’re keeping quiet for now while the reviews are ongoing.
