New Orleans: The investigation is heating up after that awful attack on Bourbon Street. It happened on January 1, and the police are working hard to find anyone else who might have been involved.
There was a noticeable police presence on Canal Street, and folks are understandably on edge. Investigators think there are more people out there who helped plan this attack, and they’re trying to track them down.
Surveillance footage showed the main suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, driving through barriers and into a crowd. It’s pretty shocking to see him get out of the truck and start shooting at officers before they returned fire and took him down.
Thankfully, the two officers who were shot are expected to recover. Tourists in town for the Sugar Bowl shared their thoughts, with one guy saying they almost turned back but decided not to let the bad guys win.
Local leaders held a press conference to discuss what went wrong, especially with the barriers meant to keep cars away from pedestrians. The police chief pointed out that this guy managed to get around those barriers, which is concerning.
Now, they’re planning to bring in military police to assist the local police and the FBI. It’s a tough situation, and many people are feeling for the victims and their families.
The FBI is still on the lookout for anyone else who might have been involved, and more updates are expected soon. It’s a tough time for the city, but they’re determined to get to the bottom of this.
