Les Arcs: So, there was this tragic accident on the slopes. A 62-year-old British woman lost her life after crashing into another skier. It happened on a black run at Aiguille Rouge mountain.
She reportedly hit a British man who was just standing there. Sadly, she died shortly after the collision due to traumatic shock. The man, on the other hand, broke his leg and was taken to the hospital.
This all went down at the Les Arcs resort in the Savoie region of south-eastern France. The resort’s safety director mentioned that it was around 10:30 AM when the accident occurred. The woman was skiing down a pretty tough slope, which is meant for experts.
Apparently, she lost control before crashing into the man. Emergency services were quick to respond, but it was too late for her. Both skiers were believed to be wearing helmets, which is a good thing, but it didn’t save her.
Local authorities are now looking into what exactly happened. A spokesperson from the British government said they’re supporting the woman’s family and are in touch with local officials.
It’s worth noting that, on average, about 10 people die from skiing accidents in France each year. A lot of these incidents involve collisions, so it’s a serious issue on the slopes.
