Inverness Car Park Fines Highland Councillor Sean Kennedy, Leaving Him Feeling Cheated
Councillor Sean Kennedy received a £60 fine after a faulty parking meter left him unable to pay at a local car park

He parked his car, tried to pay, but the machine was totally dead. With no other way to pay, he left his car, only to get hit with that hefty fine weeks later. He appealed, but Britannia Parking just brushed him off.
Kennedy felt totally conned by the whole situation. He said it’s about time someone raised questions about how locals are treated. He even checked the machine later, and it was still broken!
This isn’t just a one-off, either. The Inverness Courier has shared stories of others getting caught in the same trap. One elderly couple had proof they paid but still got fined. Another couple was furious after being fined for just 12 minutes in the car park.
And then there’s Michael Holmes, a blue badge holder, who felt terrorized after getting a fine. It seems like the meters are card-only and often don’t work right, leaving people in a tough spot.
Kennedy is fed up and might bring this up at the Highland Council. He pointed out that if you need to pay for a ticket, the machine should work properly. It’s not fair for anyone, especially those who might struggle with technology.
He’s right; it leaves a bad taste when you’re trying to support local businesses but get hit with fines like this. He’s definitely thinking about raising this issue at the council. Let’s see what happens next!
