Inverness: A local hero named Jimbo has been busy gritting the streets of Inverness. He spent over 30 hours making sure the roads were safe during the recent cold snap.

Jimbo, who runs a gardening and handyman service, took it upon himself to cover more than 50 side streets. He wanted to help out the elderly and disabled folks who might struggle in the icy conditions.

He’s been gritting the area around his home for years, but this time he decided to go bigger. “Life isn’t just about making money,” he said. “It’s about helping others.”

Along with his buddy Peter, they worked tirelessly from morning till night, hand-gritting the streets from the back of Jimbo’s truck. They did all this for free, and the community showed their appreciation with cups of tea and even some free tattoos!

Jimbo gave a shout-out to Mark, who owns a food van, for providing them with free meals throughout the weekend. “It’s been amazing,” he said.

Their efforts didn’t go unnoticed online, with over 150,000 views of their gritting adventures. Even though Jimbo asked the Highland Council for grit, they turned him down. But that didn’t stop him.

“We did this from the kindness of our hearts,” he said, adding that they plan to keep helping the community in the future.
