Insurance Firms Urge Edison to Preserve Evidence for LA Wildfire

Insurance attorneys are pushing Edison to keep evidence linked to the Eaton Fire in Los Angeles

Eaton Fire, Los Angeles, California, Edison International, Wildfire

Los Angeles: So, here’s the scoop. Edison International, the power company in Southern California, is in the hot seat. Attorneys for insurance companies are asking them to hold onto evidence related to the Eaton Fire, which has been pretty deadly.

Now, no fire agency has pointed fingers at Edison’s equipment for starting the fire just yet. They haven’t even asked to keep or remove any equipment, according to a recent filing with California regulators.

The Eaton Fire is just one of several that flared up in LA during some crazy winds. To play it safe, Edison cut power to over 100,000 homes and businesses as those winds picked up.

Edison’s initial look into things showed that their transmission lines near where the fire started were still live. They didn’t see any issues until about an hour after the fire reportedly began.

California has had its fair share of wildfires caused by utility equipment during windy weather. Remember PG&E? They filed for bankruptcy back in 2019 after a bunch of deadly fires linked to their wires.
