London: There’s a spot in Crystal Palace that locals adore, and it’s got its very own “Eiffel Tower.” This striking landmark, a transmitter, stands tall and proud, visible from all around.

Built in the 1950s, it replaced the original Crystal Palace, which was demolished during World War II. The palace had already been damaged by a fire in 1936, making it a target for bombers.

The 219-meter tower was constructed in 1956 and has been beaming TV signals to millions ever since. It used to be the tallest building in London until the Shard took that title.

Even though it switched to digital broadcasting in 2012, the tower still looks just as grand as ever, and locals take pride in it, according to MyLondon.

Gary Rigby, who’s lived nearby for nearly 20 years, shared how he loves seeing the tower from across the city. He used to work in a tall building in Southwark and found joy in spotting the transmitter from his office window.

“It made me feel like it wouldn’t be long before I could go home from the job that I hated,” he said, reminiscing about those days.

Another resident, Carl Imthurn, has been in the area since 1983. He noted how the community has changed over the years, becoming more affluent, but he still appreciates the diverse vibe of Crystal Palace.

“It’s always been gentle here,” he said, expressing gratitude for the community’s mix. He believes the area is just as beautiful as ever, boasting the best views of London.

Anna Sayburn, another local, mentioned that while rising costs make it tough for young folks to settle down here, the charm of Crystal Palace remains. “It feels a bit like living in Paris,” she said, highlighting the quaint cafés and vibrant street market.
