Llancarfan: This lovely little village in the Vale of Glamorgan is a hidden gem. With just about 750 residents, it feels like a step back in time. The narrow roads lead you through beautiful scenery, making every visit feel special.
Walking around Llancarfan is like entering a peaceful world. The streets are often quiet, and you can really soak in the calm vibe. It’s no wonder this village is now one of the poshest places to live in the UK.
The village is split by the charming Nant Llancarfan stream, with cute little bridges crossing over it. The front gardens of the homes are well-kept, adding to the village’s charm.
Ian Fell, who lives in a converted chapel, shared some history about his home. It’s over 200 years old and has only had a few families live there since it was adapted. He loves the community spirit here, saying everyone pitches in, especially at the local pub, the Fox and Hound.
Life in Llancarfan has its ups and downs. Ian remembers when the local school closed, and how much he missed hearing kids playing outside. But the village still has a lot of character, especially with its stunning church wall paintings.
St Cadoc’s Church, dating back to the 12th century, is a highlight. It’s almost like the heart of the village, surrounded by the pub and village hall, which even serves as a cinema!
Inside the church, you’ll find beautiful carvings and paintings that tell fascinating stories. People from all over the world visit, leaving their names in the guestbook.
Father Kevin Barry, the local priest, loves the community feel here. He says the church attracts visitors from everywhere, and it’s a great place for families. While public transport can be tricky, there are taxis and school buses to help out.
Unlike many villages that turn into suburbs, Llancarfan has managed to keep its charm. Father Kevin points out that there just isn’t the infrastructure for more houses, which helps maintain its unique character.
Just a short walk from the church is the Fox and Hounds pub, known for its delicious food. The new landlords, Andrew and Julie, have made it a cozy spot for locals and visitors alike.
Chloe, who works there, loves the quiet atmosphere. She mentions how nice it is to take a stroll without the hustle and bustle of city life. People come here for holidays, and it’s a lovely escape.
Llancarfan is not just a pretty place; it’s also a great spot for those looking to buy a home. There are some stunning properties available, like Cliff House, which is a beautiful thatched cottage with a rich history.
Wales has many charming villages, but Llancarfan stands out for its unique appeal and welcoming community.
