Cardiff: Carol Vorderman has opened up about her surprisingly simple secret to staying fit. The former Countdown star recently shared how she slimmed down to a size 9, which is just below a size 10. She’s not worried about what anyone else thinks, which is pretty refreshing.
In a chat with Saga magazine, she talked about her unique health habits. For snacks, she munches on raw sprouts and does squats, which she calls “squats for the bum.” Sounds quirky, right?
At 64, she shared that she usually has one meal a day, typically in the late afternoon. She also hits the gym three times a week for 45-minute sessions, which she genuinely enjoys.
Carol follows the OMAD diet, or One Meal A Day, which helps her maintain a calorie deficit. This can aid in weight loss and might even lower the risk of heart disease.
Interestingly, this kind of eating is similar to habits found in the Blue Zones, where many people live to be over 100. They often practice the ‘80% trick’ or ‘Hara Hachi Bu,’ which means eating until you’re about 80% full.
Dr. Deborah Lee, a GP, mentioned that calorie restriction might slow down aging. Eating less can lower your metabolic rate, which means fewer processes are happening in your body, leading to less oxidative stress. This stress is linked to many chronic diseases.
Carol doesn’t count calories, though. She does a detox twice a year. In her book, ‘Detox Your Life,’ she emphasizes that detoxing isn’t about counting calories but being mindful of what we eat. It’s more about eating better, not less.
