Dallas: A tragic incident unfolded when an innocent person lost their life during a police chase. The suspect, Gabriel Cerna, was trying to escape when he crashed into another vehicle.
This all went down on a Thursday morning around 10:30 a.m. Cerna was being pursued by Dallas Police after they tried to pull him over for a previous shooting incident.
Just before the crash, Cerna told the officers he wanted to “call his mom real quick.” It’s heartbreaking to think about that moment.
Social media showed images of the wreck, with both vehicles looking pretty banged up. It was a black SUV and a smaller black car, both heavily damaged.
Before taking off, Cerna had pushed a woman out of his Jeep. The chase lasted about two and a half miles before the crash happened, involving an elderly couple.
After the crash, Cerna got out of the car with a gun. When officers told him to drop it, he insisted he just wanted to call his mom. He was waving the gun around, which led to officers shooting him multiple times.
They did provide him with lifesaving treatment, and he was rushed to the hospital. His condition is still unclear.
Sadly, the crash resulted in the death of an elderly man in the other vehicle, and another person was seriously hurt. Details about the victims haven’t been released yet.
Now, the Texas Department of Public Safety is stepping in to investigate what happened.
