Imran Khan and his wife face a combined 21-year sentence for corruption linked to a land deal during his premiership
Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, Pakistan, Corruption, Court Case
Islamabad: So, here’s the scoop. A court in Pakistan just handed down some serious sentences to former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi. He got 14 years, and she’s facing 7 years behind bars for corruption. Ouch!
The whole thing revolves around a land deal with a real estate mogul. They were accused of taking land as a gift in exchange for some laundered cash while Khan was in charge. Not a good look!
On top of the jail time, Khan was slapped with a fine of about Rs 1 million, which is roughly £2,930. Bushra has to cough up half of that. It’s a hefty price to pay.
Prosecutors claim Khan let this businessman, Malik Riaz, pay off fines from another case using money that was supposedly laundered. This money, around £190 million, was returned to Pakistan by the UK last year. It was meant to go straight into the national treasury.
And that’s the latest on this unfolding drama. Stay tuned for more updates!
