Plymouth: So, guess what? They just pulled out some illegal fishing nets from the River Plym. It’s been almost a year since the last time this happened. Crazy, right?
Last January, PlymouthLive reported that the Cattewater Harbour Commissioners had to remove nets from the river because they were a real hazard for boats. They’re not messing around with this stuff.
They even mentioned using CCTV and other surveillance to help the Devon and Severn IFCA and the Marine Management Organisation keep an eye on things. It’s serious business.
On January 14 this year, they found more illegal nets. The Commissioners said these nets were set up by small boats that weren’t even lit up at night. That’s a big no-no!
They warned that it’s illegal to operate any boat without proper navigation lights. Plus, these nets are dangerous for navigation and can trap all sorts of fish and birds.
They’re asking the local folks to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity, like boats without lights or people setting up nets. If you see something, report it!
If anyone has info about illegal fishing, they can reach out to the Devon and Severn IFCA or the Cattewater Harbour Commissioners. It’s all about keeping our waters safe and clean.
