Miami: The Dolphins are on the brink of playoff elimination. If the Chargers beat the Patriots and the Broncos take down the Bengals, Miami’s chances could vanish today.

If that happens, or if they lose to the Browns, the Dolphins will be out. Omar Kelly from the Miami Herald says they might release Calais Campbell, a veteran defensive lineman.

Campbell has hinted at this possibility. If he’s released, he’ll go through waivers. Any team can claim him, whether they’re in the playoffs or not. If no one claims him, he’ll hit free agency.

Before the trade deadline, the Ravens were interested in Campbell. But coach Mike McDaniel convinced him to stay, promising he’d be let go if the Dolphins’ playoff hopes faded.

The Ravens might still be a top contender to claim him. The Vikings and Lions are also in the mix. If he wants a shot at a championship, the Chiefs could be a great fit.

Campbell has expressed his desire to win, saying, “My whole career I’ve been close, but no cigar. I want that cigar.”

If Miami’s playoff hopes linger, it could get tricky. It’s tough to leave a team that still has a shot, even if they don’t make it far. Plus, once the season ends, they can’t release him if they’re eliminated in Week 18.

This situation adds an interesting twist to the last two weekends of the regular season. If Miami is out by Monday, it only takes one team to claim Campbell and give him a new opportunity.
