Icy Threat Skips High Point as Winter Storm Hits Nearby Areas

High Point narrowly avoided severe winter weather, but another storm may bring snow later this week, according to local meteorologists.

HIGH POINT: So, it looks like High Point dodged a bullet with that winter storm that hit other areas hard. While places to the north and west got hit with ice and snow, we mostly stayed dry on Monday. But don’t get too comfy just yet; another weather system might roll in later this week.

There were no major issues reported here. The High Point Electric Utilities Department said everything was running smoothly, with no outages. The police had a couple of minor accidents, but nothing like what we saw last week when the weather was clear.

Schools in Guilford, Davidson, and Randolph counties had to cancel classes, which was a bummer since it was supposed to be the first day back after the holiday break. They cited icy roads as the main reason for the closures.

According to a meteorologist from the National Weather Service, we were lucky because the colder air stayed just north of us. That’s why we didn’t get as much freezing rain. The next storm could bring some snow, but we won’t know the details until later in the week.

Forecasters think it might mostly be snow, with less chance of freezing rain. It’s all about the storm’s path and timing. So, we could end up with a little dusting or something that needs shoveling. For those who love snow, this could be a great chance!
