Glasgow: The Baby Grand, a beloved piano bar and restaurant, closed on January 30, 2025. This venue had been a city center staple for over 40 years.
The restaurant shut down because its building will be demolished for new student housing. It first opened its doors in 1984.
Before the final closure, Scottish musician Ricky Ross stopped by to perform. He is the lead singer of the pop rock band Deacon Blue.
Ricky wowed fans with a special performance at the venue. Deacon Blue, formed in Glasgow in 1985, is famous for hits like “Real Gone Kid” and “Dignity.”
The Baby Grand thanked Ricky for his tribute song and piano performance. They noted it was a full circle moment since his first gig was at their venue.
The piano bar also expressed gratitude to its patrons for their support over the years. They shared a heartfelt goodbye on Instagram.
Owner Billy McAneney mentioned the restaurant will “almost certainly not” reopen elsewhere. He reflected on having a great time over the past four decades.
