The pub has been on Finchley Road since 1830. It was a popular hangout for locals and artists. The last drinks were served on Saturday night, and now the pub is being emptied out.
Barman Paul Shoebridge worked there for 16 years. He mentioned that it feels like the end of an era. He has seen many famous faces come through, including footballer Dionne Dublin.
The new owner of the pub is still unknown. The Campaign for Real Ale hopes it will remain a pub. Many locals are worried it could be replaced by flats.
The pub was originally called the Swiss Tavern. It was built next to a toll gate for travelers. Over the years, it became a local landmark, despite the modern buildings around it.
Joanne Scott from CAMRA said the closure is a big loss for the community. There aren’t many pubs left in the area, making this one special.
In the last six months, 46 pubs have closed in London. The future of Ye Olde Swiss Cottage remains uncertain. Locals hope it will continue to serve drinks and memories for years to come.
