Mansfield: A woman named Helen Jones had a close call when a double-decker bus crashed into her house. She was in her living room when she heard a loud noise around 7:30 am.
Helen and her husband, Anthony, quickly ran outside to check on the driver. She described seeing the bus coming toward them as if everything was in slow motion. It was surreal.
She shouted to her husband to get out of the way. They rushed out to help the driver, who seemed shaken and couldn’t communicate well. Thankfully, other people were there to assist too.
They called 999, and emergency services arrived quickly. Helen mentioned that a post at the top of her driveway likely prevented the bus from crashing into the neighbor’s house.
Helen lives with her husband, two kids, and their dogs. After a structural surveyor deemed their home safe, they returned. She expressed gratitude for the support from neighbors during this scary time.
Fortunately, no one else was on the bus, and her son had left for his exam an hour earlier. If he had been there, it could have been much worse.
Only the driver was injured, but it sounds like he’ll be okay. The bus involved is a school bus operated by Nottinghamshire County Council, which hasn’t commented yet.
Emergency services reported they received a call about the crash at 7:29 am. They sent a paramedic and two ambulances to the scene. One person was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre.
Nottinghamshire Police confirmed they were called at 7:27 am about the incident. Thankfully, the driver’s injuries are not life-threatening, and the road reopened later that day.
