I Had My Moles Checked for Cancer and Here’s What Happened
A personal account of a skin check reveals surprising findings and vital tips
Skin Cancer, Moles, Glasgow, UK, MOLE Clinic
Glasgow: So, I recently went to get my moles checked for skin cancer, and wow, what an eye-opener! I thought I knew my skin pretty well, but I learned some surprising things.
I visited the MOLE Clinic, which has spots all over the UK. The staff there were super friendly and made me feel at ease. During my appointment, Angela, the nurse, checked me from head to toe. I knew about a couple of moles, but I had no idea I had more hiding on my back and foot!
Angela took her time, checking every inch of my skin. She even looked at my scalp and behind my ears. It was thorough, to say the least! We chatted about my family history with skin cancer and my sun habits. Thankfully, everything looked normal, and I was relieved to hear my moles were all good.
It’s easy to keep an eye on the moles you can see, but those sneaky ones in hard-to-see places? Not so much! I had mistaken some for freckles, thinking they were harmless. If I hadn’t gone in, I might have just ignored them.
Angela also shared some important info about what to watch for. Did you know skin cancer can even show up on your nails? If you notice any weird marks, especially if they appear out of nowhere, get them checked out!
After my appointment, I got my results in less than a day. They told me everything was fine, which was such a relief. If anything needed more testing, they’d send it off quickly, too. They even gave me a letter with recommendations on how to protect my skin.
One big takeaway? Keep an eye on your moles every few months. Skin cancer can pop up anytime, and catching it early is key. The clinic also reminded me that freckles mean sun damage, which can double your risk of skin cancer.
So, if you can, try to stay out of the sun during peak hours and always use a good sunscreen. I learned a lot from this experience, and I’m glad I went. If you’re thinking about getting checked, I say go for it!
