Manchester: The atmosphere at Manchester United has made it tough for Joshua Zirkzee since he joined from Bologna for £36 million. Alan Shearer, the Premier League’s top scorer, thinks the club’s instability is a big part of the problem.
Shearer pointed out that Zirkzee’s recent performance, where he was subbed off amid mixed reactions during a 2-0 loss to Newcastle, hasn’t helped his confidence. He’s only scored four goals in 28 games this season, and Shearer believes the pressure at United is weighing heavily on him.
“Moving clubs is hard, especially in a situation like this,” Shearer said. “You want to join a team that’s ready to win, not one that’s struggling and facing constant criticism.”
He also mentioned Rasmus Hojlund, who has shown promise with seven goals this season, but only two in the Premier League. Shearer feels Hojlund could shine if he had the same support he received when he was younger at Southampton.
“Hojlund has potential, but patience is key,” Shearer added. “United really needs another striker to help him develop without too much pressure.”
Shearer reflected on his own early career, noting that it took time to find his footing. He emphasized the importance of confidence and the right opportunities for young players, something he feels Hojlund hasn’t had enough of lately.
