A Hull man thought he was messaging a young girl but was caught by police

Hull: A man named Justin Irvine thought he was chatting with a 12-year-old girl online. He was in for a rude awakening when he found out she was actually an undercover cop.
Irvine, 36, was sending explicit messages and even photos, believing he was talking to a real girl. He admitted to being “horny” and made some pretty inappropriate comments.
It all started when police created a fake profile of a young girl. Irvine fell for it and began messaging her, thinking he was being slick. He even told her that “age is just a number.”
After a few days of back-and-forth, he was arrested. Turns out, he had a history of similar offenses, which didn’t help his case at all.
In court, his lawyer said he realized the seriousness of his actions and was troubled by what he had done. But the judge wasn’t having any of it.
Judge John Thackray made it clear that this was a serious crime. Irvine was sentenced to a year in jail and will have to register as a sex offender for the next ten years.
It’s a tough lesson learned, but it’s a reminder that online actions have real-world consequences.
