Huddersfield: A school in Huddersfield faced a tough situation when a flood hit, causing a lot of damage. The early years unit at Linthwaite Clough Primary School had to close down.
Staff and parents really stepped up to help out after the flood. When they found the early years unit filled with water, it was a shock. In some spots, the water was nearly a foot deep! Right now, they’re still figuring out how much the repairs will cost.
The flooding happened after some rough weather, mainly due to a drainage issue that let water seep into the building. Thankfully, nursery and reception kids can return to school on January 13, thanks to a new classroom set up upstairs.
Headteacher James Roberts expressed his gratitude to everyone who pitched in. One parent, Ely Lockwood, even started a Go Fund Me campaign that has already raised over £200 to help with the situation.
Mr. Roberts shared his disbelief when they returned to school after the holidays. He said it was one thing to come back to snow, but finding the early years unit flooded was a whole different story. The damage was extensive, affecting furniture, floors, and even the walls.
He praised the staff for their quick action to get things back on track for the older kids. The early years staff have been busy preparing the new classroom to make it a cozy space for the little ones.
Mr. Roberts also highlighted how amazing the parents have been, organizing fundraisers and offering support. The whole community has really come together during this tough time.
Despite the disruption, everyone is focused on making the best of the situation. They’re looking forward to welcoming the nursery and reception kids back to school soon.
