Blackpool: A holidaymaker had a rough time at a hotel during a recent trip. Paul and his partner Ann spent over £550 for a three-night New Year break at the Oak Lea Hotel.

Paul, 51, said it was one of the worst hotel experiences he ever had. He complained about cold fried eggs and tinned mushrooms for breakfast, plus long waits for service.

He took photos showing a broken window at the entrance and a dirty outdoor plant pot. The reception area had stained ceiling tiles, and their room had a leak that soaked the bathroom floor.

After complaining, they were moved to a nearby B&B. They chose to eat breakfast at a cafe instead of the hotel on their second morning.

Paul described the hotel as terrible. He said the evening meal was chaotic, with some guests getting their main courses before their starters.

A hotel spokesperson explained that the ceiling tiles were stained due to a burst pipe, which has since been fixed. They also mentioned that the front door glass was cracked but couldn’t be replaced until after New Year.

They acknowledged a leak caused by heavy rain but insisted that food temperatures are checked regularly. They claimed that all meals are served in the correct order.

Paul booked the trip through Caledonian Travel. After his complaints, he received an apology and a £50 voucher, which he found insulting. He wants a full refund instead.

Paul has reported his concerns to Blackpool Council, which is now looking into the matter. The hotel has mixed reviews online, with some guests enjoying their stay while others were disappointed.
