Harlow: HTS, the local environmental service, hosted a special morning for the Harlow Wombles. They celebrated the Wombles’ role in helping HTS win a Green Apple Award.
The Harlow Wombles are local residents who pick up litter. They work in groups or individually to keep the town clean.
HTS provides them with bags and pick-up sticks. Then, they get to work cleaning up the area.
The Wombles also help HTS by reporting fly-tipping. This allows HTS to clean up quickly.
Stella Dunlop, the Health and Safety manager, invited the Wombles for a tour and lunch at their base. Cllr Nicky Purse, the environment portfolio holder, thanked them for their support.
The Green Apple Awards recognize environmental best practices. They started in 1994 and are now a popular global campaign.
HTS (Property and Environment) Limited was set up by Harlow Council. They provide essential environmental and property maintenance services.
