Manchester: So, there’s this wild story about two hotel workers, Meron Masho and Tmnint Yonas. They were in court recently for hopping on a train without a ticket. Can you believe it?

These two, aged 27 and 21, were staying at the Daresbury Park Hotel. They decided to board a train at Navigation Road station last June without paying. Not the smartest move, right?

They could’ve easily bought tickets since the machines were working. But nope, they just jumped on the train to Manchester Piccadilly.

They got hit with a penalty fare notice of £100 plus the actual fare of £5.10. If they paid within 21 days, it would drop to £50. But guess what? They didn’t pay or even appeal.

After a couple of reminder letters, they still ignored it. So, the court decided they had to pay a total of £463.10 each. That’s a fine, the fare, and some extra costs. Ouch!
