Oldham: The Royal Oldham Hospital trust is really shaken up after a nurse was stabbed in the A&E department. It’s just awful to hear about such violence in a place meant for healing.
A woman in her 50s, who works as a nurse, is in critical condition after the attack late Saturday night. Police have arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder, which is just heartbreaking.
Apparently, the attack was carried out with a sharp object that wasn’t a knife. The police are saying they don’t think there’s any ongoing threat to the public, which is a relief.
The hospital trust is focusing on supporting the injured nurse and her family during this tough time. They’ve assured everyone that all hospital services are still running as usual.
Heather Caudle, the chief nursing officer, expressed how shocked and saddened everyone is. She mentioned that they’re also thinking about the patients and staff who witnessed the incident, as it must have been really distressing for them.
Detective Sergeant Craig Roters said this is a serious situation and that they’re there to support the nurse’s family and colleagues. He also mentioned that there will be more police around to reassure the community.
Local MP Jim McMahon called the attack “senseless” and shared his hopes for the nurse’s recovery. It’s just a tough situation for everyone involved, and we’re all hoping for the best.
