Manchester: A nurse was stabbed in the A&E department of Royal Oldham Hospital. The attacker was reportedly furious about waiting to be seen.
The incident happened late Saturday night, and the nurse is now in critical condition with what are described as “life-changing” injuries. A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Witnesses say the man got angry after waiting too long. One person mentioned it was scary to see a disagreement escalate like that. It’s a reminder of how tense things can get in hospitals, especially at night.
Heather Caudle, the chief nursing officer at the hospital, expressed shock and sadness over the attack. She emphasized that their focus is on supporting the injured nurse and her family.
Detective Sergeant Craig Roters from Greater Manchester Police said this is a serious situation. He reassured the community that police presence would increase as they investigate, and they’re there to help anyone with concerns.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting also shared his thoughts, stating that nurses should be able to work without fear of violence. He highlighted the importance of nurses in the NHS and promised to stay in touch with the hospital trust.
