St Louis: So, there was this shocking incident where police officers just walked away from a guy who had shot himself. Can you believe that? It all went down on September 10, 2023, and it was caught on bodycam.
Two officers from the St Louis Metropolitan Police showed up after a man called 911 saying he wanted to end his life. When they got there, they found Urayoan Rodriguez-Rivera bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head. But instead of helping, one officer said he didn’t want to deal with it because his shift was almost over.
In the footage, you can hear one officer, Austin Fraser, saying he wanted to just wait out the last half hour of his shift. They literally left the scene without calling for help or even checking on the guy properly. It’s just wild.
After they left, they were even laughing about how they’d act surprised when other officers found the victim. Can you imagine? They drove around for a bit and came back just as another officer arrived, who immediately called for medical help.
Sadly, Rodriguez-Rivera didn’t make it and died later in the hospital. The police department is now investigating what happened, and it’s clear that this situation raises a lot of questions about how officers are trained to handle emergencies.
It’s just heartbreaking to think about how things could have been different if those officers had acted. The department has confirmed that both Fraser and his partner are no longer with the police force, but they haven’t shared many details about why they left.
