Perth: A seaplane crash has left the community in shock. Investigators are gearing up to recover the wreckage of a plane that went down during take-off, resulting in three fatalities and several injuries.
The plane, carrying seven people, hit a limestone outcrop near Rottnest Island around 4 PM on Tuesday. It was a tragic scene as the Cessna 208 Caravan 675 nosedived into the water, claiming the lives of the pilot, James Wong, and two passengers.
Authorities are hopeful that the wreckage, both submerged and retrieved, will shed light on what went wrong. Angus Mitchell from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau mentioned that they’ll focus on any information they can gather from the plane.
Witnesses described a massive splash when the plane hit the water. The seaplane’s owners expressed their heartbreak over the incident, extending condolences to the families affected.
Police divers worked tirelessly to recover the bodies from eight meters below the surface. Among the survivors are a few individuals who are now receiving medical attention.
As investigations continue, a 200-meter exclusion zone has been established around the crash site. Experts from various locations are on the scene to assist in the investigation.
