Charter Alley: So, there’s a bit of a situation brewing in Charter Alley. Residents are gearing up for a 7-hour power outage on January 13, thanks to SSEN. They’re installing a new electricity transformer to support new homes in the area.
Peter Hobbs, a local dad, is pretty worried. He’s especially concerned about elderly folks and those who might struggle without power during the cold snap. He thinks it’s a bit crazy to cut power when it’s chilly outside.
He gets that the work needs to happen, but he wishes they’d pick a better time. SSEN did send out letters in December to let everyone know, but Peter feels like not everyone got the memo. He’s been in touch with them, but their responses haven’t been very helpful.
Peter even reached out to the CEO of SSEN and his local MP, Kit Malthouse, to voice his concerns. He’s frustrated that they’re shutting off power when there’s still snow on the ground. He thinks there should be rules against doing that in bad weather.
SSEN responded, saying they’re modernizing the local network and that they did inform residents well in advance. They also mentioned they’ve been trying to reach out to vulnerable customers to offer support. But for Peter, it just doesn’t feel like enough.
