St Helens: An amber warning is out for parts of the North West of England. Heavy rain and wind are causing flooding, and it’s not looking good.

West End Road is one of the worst-hit areas. Homes and cars are under several feet of water after the Sankey Canal overflowed. Fire crews had to block off the junction of Blackbrook Road and West End Road as water rushed into the streets.

Just yesterday, a yellow weather warning was issued for parts of Merseyside. The rain kept coming through the night, and now an amber warning is in effect. It’s a mess out there with more heavy rain and wind expected.

Across the UK, over 130 flood warnings are active. Fast-flowing water poses a real danger to life. Roads are closed in Merseyside, including major routes like the M57 and M6, making travel a nightmare.

Photos shared with The ECHO show the flooding at Blackbrook Road and West End Road in Haydock. Residents reported that the canal had burst its banks, leading to the chaos.

This morning, a spokesperson from Merseyside Fire and Rescue said they were on the scene at Blackbrook Street. They arrived quickly after being alerted and found the streets flooded. Thankfully, no one had to be evacuated, but West End Road is still closed.

Firefighters checked in with locals and are now wrapping up their response. It’s been a tough day for many, but help is on the way.
