Lawrence County: Last week, two county commissioners took their oaths of office, gearing up for their new terms starting Monday. DeAnna Holliday and Colton Copley were both re-elected in November 2024.
Copley, who has been the commission president since 2024, had his oath administered by Judge Christen Finley at the courthouse. His family was there to support him, which is always nice.
Holliday is starting her third term and took her oath with Judge Kevin Waldo officiating. She switched from the Democratic to the Republican party in 2019, but she’s been in public service for 20 years now.
She mentioned that her main focus remains the same: ensuring the county’s financial health. When the county is financially strong, it can tackle other important issues.
Holliday also wants to provide resources that really help the community, like veterans services and job assistance programs. She believes in working closely with schools and other public services.
She highlighted the positive impact of programs like the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which benefits local kids. It’s all about creating a ripple effect of good in the community.
Holliday is a big advocate for strong community relationships and has been active on various boards, including one that connects leaders from around the Tri-State area.
The commission’s first meeting of the year is coming up on January 13 at the courthouse, so it looks like they’re ready to hit the ground running!
